Jas Stade is a guitarist, composer, & educator from Oakland, CA.
Jas cultivated a love for guitar at a young age- playing in classical guitar ensembles, DIY generator shows, and musical theater productions, growing an appreciation for the versatility of the instrument.

Jas currently composes and performs with Gumby’s Junk,
an art-punk project based in Oakland. Gumby’s has performed extensively throughout the Bay Area, crafting oblique & fantastical sounds and opening for bands such as Margaritas Podridas, Pregnant, Big Fun, Momma, Emily Yacina, Juicebumps, Bob Vylan, Sea Moss, & Pure Hex.

She studied with celtic guitarist Bill Coulter and classical guitarist Chris Mallet, earning a BM from UC Santa Cruz. As part of CalArts’ Performer-Composer MFA program, she studied with guitarist Miroslav Tadic. She has played with Yale School of Music guitar professor Ben Verdery & worked with guitarists Andrew York and Alex DeGrassi at their Mendocino Guitar Workshop.

In 2019, she was a featured artist performing original experimental-classical works for the Vietnamese American Classical Guitar Society and performed with Rhythms of the City, an immersive 100+ person performance composed by film composer Heitor Pereira.

In 2022, after posting 1 Riff a Day for a month in collaboration with She Shreds Media’s #1RAD challenge, she performed original works at She Shreds’ Open Mic. These riffs eventually became miniature songs, culminating in Jas’ first EP, Bite Size, released in December 2022.
